Although therapeutic grade Essential Oils come from the earth and in general are very safe to use, some precautions need to be taken with children. Just as you would never give a young child an adult dose of pain medication, we need to be mindful of how TRULY POTENT one drop of Essential Oil is, and make sure to dilute Essential Oils with a carrier oil such as Fractionated Coconut Oil.

To ensure you are using Essential Oils properly with children, follow the dilution guidelines listed below:

  • Newborn to six months: 1 drop Essential Oil in 4 tsp. of carrier oil.

  • Six months to two years: 1 drop Essential Oil in 2 tsp. of carrier oil.

  • Two to five years: 1 drop Essential Oil in 1 tsp. of carrier oil.

  • Five to ten years: 1 to 2 drops Essential Oil in 1 tsp. of carrier oil.

  • Ten to eighteen years: 1 to 5 drops Essential Oil in 1 tsp. of carrier oil.

When creating your own roller bottle blends to use with children (and we’ll provide some recipes for doing that!), use the following ratios to ensure proper dilution:

  • Under two years: Fill the roller bottle 1/4 of the way with Essential Oils and then top off with carrier oil.

  • Two to six years: Fill the roller bottle 1/3 of the way with Essential Oils and top off with carrier oil.

  • Six years and up: Fill the roller bottle 1/2 of the way with Essential Oils and top off with carrier oil.

QUESTION – WHICH DILUTION RATIOS WILL YOU NEED FOR THE KIDS IN YOUR HOME OR EXTENDED FAMILY?
